Seven Pounds Movie Review

Fandango - We've Got Your Movie Tickets!
Far exceeding my expectations, “Seven Pounds” encourages a strong sense of introspection and provides a truly outstanding viewing experience.  The beginning of the film will have you questioning its worth as it seems to try too hard at achieving a mysterious tone - however, that can be easily overlooked if you shake the pompous attitude that most of the critics have taken to this film.  Will Smith stars in this drama directed by Gabriele Muccino in which Smith, an IRS agent, is on a journey to reconcile his inner anguish and guilt through drastically changing the lives of seven complete strangers. Co-star Rosario Dawson serves as a heavy-hitting counterpart to Smith, drawing out the intricacies of his character. Woody Harrelson plays a surprisingly convincing (albeit minor) role that strings together the underlying theme of the importance of the purity of the human soul. The film, while deep and at times very dark, is more moving than anything else. A definite must this weekend. Don't wait. Guarantee your seat before you go and avoid a sold out show. Non-Profit of the Day! - PBS

I just realized to my horror that I haven't added a new non-profit of the day since Sunday!

In case you are wondering, no - I have not started my paper yet.

PBS is one of the greatest creations, along with NPR.  But today it is PBS that gets the attention.  Go here to donate to your local PBS station.

Ben Folds & Sirius (XM) Radio

As I let you know in my last post, I am in the throws of finals (actually, this post is a great way for me to put off writing my last paper).  Naturally, I am somewhat losing my mind - until about 10 minutes ago when I was driving to campus and Ben Folds came on my Sirius radio.

I'm am going to do my best to never blatantly pitch a company on this blog; however, I am very siriusly [ha] indebted to them for providing me with a non-stop comfort blanket that is Ben Folds.  You know that feeling that you used to get when you were a kid and you came home from school in the middle of the winter and had a cup of hot chocolate?  Well, that is how I feel when I listen to Ben Folds.

Why does Sirius get all the props?  Well, simply put - I realized how great of a deal it is as I was being serenaded into serenity.  I pay $12.95/month for unlimited, fantastic music.  They have much better deals, like lifetime memberships for a one-time flat fee; but, I don't have the cash now so I can't get it.

I really only listen to 1 station, Sirius XM U (formerly Sirius Left of Center).  They have outstanding music AND host "Blog Radio," perhaps the best creation of all time.  This is how I got into My Old Kentucky Blog at first, and then after I heard all of the blog radio programs - I was hooked.  Their current lineup is: Monday, Hipster Runoff; Tuesday, My Old Kentucky Blog; Wednesday, Brooklyn Vegan; Thursday, Gorilla vs. Bear; Friday, Aquarium Drunkard; and Saturday, IT'S A TRAP!.

All of these blogs deserve your attention.  Now, after that shameless promotion of something that I love; I give you an unnecessary amount of Ben Folds.

Okay, I will control myself... and write my paper.

Best,

Joe

Al Franken, Norm Coleman, Tap Dancing...and Fred?

My most sincere apologies for slacking on the post for today - but hey, I'm a college student and I have finals right now.

Issue 1: Al Franken and Norm Coleman Suck

I can't believe this re-count, I am almost as ashamed as when my state elected Jesse Ventura as our Governor...almost.  But seriously, these two guys first harassed their voters with the most negative campaign in Minnesota history - and now they are throwing out and letting in so many votes I'm not sure either of the candidates actually know what's going on.  Either way, I am tired enough that I may just keep ranting - so instead, a video from the Franken camp that will probably make you very angry about the whole thing (if you are a Minnesotant).

Issue 2: Tap Dancing

So, to make it up to you for starting on such a negative note - I bring you this absurd tap dancing video.  If I could do this I would a) be a lot gayer than I already am, and b) I would not be spending my time blogging, and c) probably have more friends.  ALSO - if anyone knows who this group is - let me know!

Issue 3: Fred, to post or not to post

Now it might seem absurd to you all that I bother spending my time debating these things with myself - but this blog is still in its infancy and the last thing I want to do is post something that is going to make you yell obscenities and leave in an angry fury never to return.

I found this kid on youtube - he is some sort of phenomenon.  Since he created his channel in 2005 his channel alone - NOT all of his video views combined, just his channel, has received over 22 MILLION VIEWS.

The reason this amazes me is because a) this kid is NOT older than 13, and b) I'm not entirely sure if his stuff is funny, annoying, or a combination of the two.  Either way, here is a sample.  Prepare yourself for high pitched shenaneganery.

My Favorite Quote: "Look at that island over there, it's Alcatraz, it's a prison, I think my dad might be there."

Alright, that is all for now - wish me luck on finals.

Two New Movies; Milk, Doubt

"Doubt"
Philip Seymour Hoffman is by far one of my favorite actors, he has been outstanding in basically everything he has ever done. The preview for this one seems a bit weak, but the movie has gotten good reviews and I would say is worth your time.

"Milk"
Sean Penn doesn't fuck around - he unrelentingly takes part in outstanding movies and this is no exception. Take the time, see this one.

Gay? Straight? HILARIOUS!

This kid should really make some more movies.  Not sure if he is old enough to be using the internet...he looks like he is about 12, but nonetheless, his performance deserves some props.
